Montepulciano by von Stiehl Wins Double Gold!
Montepulciano Wins Double Gold!
ALGOMA, WISCONSIN – von Stiehl Winery, Wisconsin’s oldest winery since 1967, received some exciting news regarding their 2014 Sierra Foothills Montepulciano red wine. It was awarded a double gold at this year’s Tasters Guild International Wine Competition, which is a chapter of the American Wine Society.
von Stiehls’ Montepulciano is a truly unique and often hard to find wine. Their winemaking team sought out the Montepulciano grape to provide wines not commonly found among Wisconsin wineries. Grapes for this wine were grown in the Sierra Foothills of California and hand-picked at peak of ripeness to ensure a full-flavored and well-rounded wine.
“We are honored that this wine received a double gold medal.  The highest award in the category,” said Aric Schmiling, co-owner of the winery and its head winemaker.  “We have been focusing on our red wines for the past 10 years and excited that they are getting this level of attention,” he continued.
von Stiehl offers more than  40 different wines and ciders and you can try each one of them at their tasting room in Algoma, Wisconsin.
