von Stiehl Winery scores 96 – point wine!
August 23, 2022 – von Stiehl Winery, Wisconsin’s oldest licensed winery in operation since 1967, recently competed in the USA Wine Ratings International Competition in San Francisco, CA to astounding results. Four of the wines submitted scored high marks, with their 2019 Teroldego scoring 96 points and being one of the top wines at the competition.
von Stiehl’s 2019 Teroldego was their newest creation focusing on varietals not common to Wisconsin, and their third red wine to score 90 points or more in as many years. A lesser-known grape varietal, Teroldego is grown almost exclusively in Italy with less than 2% coming from outside the country. The grapes for this exclusive wine came from the Clarksburg region in California and were hand-picked at perfect ripeness to ensure a full and flavorful wine.
“We are very humbled and honored that this wine scored so highly at 96 points, as well as having three other wines score 84 points or more,” said Anthony Bilwin, General Manager of the winery. “Our red wine program has really been a focus for us, and it’s exciting for our team to see their passion score so incredibly well,” he continued.
Other wines that scored highly at this year’s competition were their 2017 Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon scoring 92 points, 2017 Barrel Select Cabernet Sauvignon scoring 89 points, and their 2021 Albarino scoring 84 points. All of these coming after their Cherry Bounce won Double Gold – Best in Class Liqueur – at this years Finger Lakes International Wine Competition in June, for the second year in a row.
