Algoma Soar on the Shore Kite Festival

Things to see!

The Wisconsin Kiters Club will provide stunt kites, giant display kites and a kite candy drop/candy blasting for kids. With favorable winds, this club can “paint the sky’ with color and movement. They will also be on hand to answer questions about kiting and give newcomers some valuable tips. There will be a public fly area for people to fly their own kites.

Things to do – activities!

Children are invited to participate in crafts, street games, scavenger hunt and playing in the sand with toys. There will be easels available for aspiring plein air artists. Mischief & Magic, sponsored by Fox Communities Credit Union, will provide twisted balloon creations. Paint rocks with artist Abbey Collins, sponsored by Yardstick Books. Blue Yorkie Juicery is sponsoring beach rock mosaics. New this year are kite sun catchers you can color and decorate, sponsored by and made locally at CTI Hospitality. Join sponsor Yonder Gallery and create a colorful, community, chalk collaboration. Families and individuals are invited to fill in a section of a large patchwork chalk mural. Bay Shore Outfitters will provide kayak demos down on the beach.

Food to Eat!

New food vendors are joining the Destination Imagination corn stand. Sample Carjack’s Patty Wagon with smashed burgers, hand cut French fries, fried Renard’s cheese curds, nachos and milkshakes, including flavors peanut butter chocolate, chocolate, fresh strawberry, and fresh cherry. Captain Tom’s BBQ will feature pulled pork sandwiches with all the sides and a specialty Oreo dessert. Chubby Cheeks Ice Cream Truck will sell ice cream treats.

Join the Friends at 2 p.m. to honor Kurt Colburn, longtime Soar on the Shore DJ, who passed last year. The Wisconsin Kiters Club will perform a ghost kite flight in his honor. Kurt was an important part of Soar and his positive spirit set the tone for each festival.
