Soar on the Shore Beach and Kite Festival Celebrates 5 Years

Once again you are invited to Algoma’s Crescent Beach on the shore of Lake Michigan for a family friendly event. The 5th Annual Soar on the Shore Kite and Beach Festival will take place Saturday, August 17^th, 2019, from 11am-4pm. This free family fun event is presented by Friends of Crescent Beach and the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce.

Things to see!
The Wisconsin Kiter’s Club will provide stunt kites, giant display kites and a kite candy drop/candy blasting for kids.  With favorable winds, this club can “paint the sky’ with color and movement. They will also be on hand to answer questions about kiting and give newcomers some valuable tips.   There will be a public fly area for people to fly their own kites.  The Water’s Edge Artists, plein air painters will be posted through the festival grounds. This group of artists are dedicated to advocating preservation of natural spaces through their art.

Things to do – activities!
Children are invited to participate in kite making, rock painting, windsock making, beach mosaics, street games, and playing in the sand with toys provided by Friends of Crescent Beach. There will be easels available for aspiring plein air artists. Mischief & Magic, sponsored by Fox Communities Credit Union, will provide decorative face painting and twisted balloon creations.

Food to Eat!
Food items include classic fare such as ice cream, root beer floats, sweet corn, popcorn and foot-long hot dogs. Still hungry? The grounds are surrounded by restaurants and other establishments selling food within easy walking distance of the event.

For the first time, Crescent Beach T-shirts will be for sale.

Mrs. Wigglebottoms Print Factory is a small, home-based, screen printed apparel business located in Casco and run by the Ryan, Amy and Sky Schoenberger family.

The mission of Friends of Crescent Beach is: “To promote through advocacy, education and activities the improvement, support, protection and enjoyment of Crescent Beach.” All donations go to supporting this mission.

All activities, especially the ability to fly kites, are weather dependent.  Rain date is scheduled for Sunday August 18^th, 2019, 11am-4pm.
