September 2022 Declared Chamber of Commerce Month in Wisconsin

 In Chamber

September 2022 has been declared as Chamber of Commerce Month in Wisconsin, so here is a little about the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce!

The Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit, member-driven entity funded primarily through membership dues. Additional revenue comes from events such as Shanty Days in Algoma and Algoma Concerts in the Park along with grants, donations, and city room tax. Businesses and organizations voluntarily join the chamber which affords them a network of support and promotion.

While the Chamber/Visitors Center building sits on a public park, the Algoma Area Chamber is not a department of the City of Algoma. As a matter of fact, the City of Algoma is a chamber member!

There are currently four paid staff members including one full-time executive director, one part-time visitor services and volunteer coordinator, one part-time custodian, and one part-time social media/website manager. Chamber members elect a Board of Directors who meet monthly to establish overall policy while the executive director oversees the day-to-day operations. The Algoma Chamber also runs the Algoma Visitor Center that is staffed by dozens of volunteers!

Some of the Chamber’s ultimate goals are to further the interests of the businesses and organizations in the Algoma area while drawing people here and connecting them with the very groups we serve. Several programs and events help the Chamber meet these goals. The popular Chamber Checks program helps dollars stay local while events such as Shanty Days, Soar on the Shore, Concerts in the Park, Small Business Saturday, and the Algoma Sunday Farmers Market help bring in visitors to the area.

The Kewaunee County Christmas Stroll is a collaboration between the Luxemburg Area Chamber of CommerceKewaunee Area Chamber of Commerce, and Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce, reinforcing the power of chambers and communities working together to promote the small businesses that are the heart and soul of the area.

Thank you to everyone who supports the Chamber during this Chamber of Commerce  Month and every month. Support can continue by patronizing our member businesses, volunteering with one of our member organizations or at the Visitors Center, or becoming a member!
