    Unique Flying Objects of Two Rivers, the WI Kiters Club, the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce and Friends of Crescent Beach invite you to join us for a fun-filled day on Crescent Beach here Algoma, WI for Soar on the Shore!

    Kite flying is fun for the whole family and is sure to bring out the kid in all of us. Come watch the professionals as they soar kites both big and small and enjoy a day at the beach!

    Follow Route 42 or Route 54 right into the center of Algoma right along the Lake Michigan shore!

    Come learn lots about kite flying or bring your own and join the fun. Kite flying contingent on weather/winds; rain date August 22, 11-4.

    Official Press Release: Soar on the Shore Beach and Kite Festival Celebrates 7 Years

    ALGOMA, WI – The public is invited to Algoma’s Crescent Beach on the shore of Lake Michigan for a free family friendly event. The 7th Annual Soar on the Shore Kite and Beach Festival will take place Saturday, August 21, from 11-4pm. This event is presented by Friends of Crescent Beach and the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce. The event takes place down on Crescent Beach and on Lake Street overlooking the water.

    Things to see!

    The Wisconsin Kiters Club will provide stunt kites, giant display kites and a kite candy drop/candy blasting for kids. With favorable winds, this club can “paint the sky’ with color and movement. They will also be on hand to answer questions about kiting and give newcomers some valuable tips. There will be a public fly area for people to fly their own kites.

    Things to do – activities!

    Children are invited to participate in crafts, street games, scavenger hunt and playing in the sand with toys. There will be easels available for aspiring plein air artists. Mischief & Magic, sponsored by Fox Communities Credit Union, will provide twisted balloon creations. Paint rocks with artist Abbey Collins, sponsored by Yardstick Books. Blue Yorkie Juicery is sponsoring beach rock mosaics. New this year are kite sun catchers you can color and decorate, sponsored by and made locally at CTI Hospitality. Join sponsor Yonder Gallery and create a colorful, community, chalk collaboration. Families and individuals are invited to fill in a section of a large patchwork chalk mural. Bay Shore Outfitters will provide kayak demos down on the beach.

    Food to Eat!

    New food vendors are joining the Destination Imagination corn stand. Sample Carjack’s Patty Wagon with smashed burgers, hand cut French fries, fried Renard’s cheese curds, nachos and milkshakes, including flavors peanut butter chocolate, chocolate, fresh strawberry, and fresh cherry. Captain Tom’s BBQ will feature pulled pork sandwiches with all the sides and a specialty Oreo dessert. Chubby Cheeks Ice Cream Truck will sell ice cream treats.

    Join the Friends at 2 p.m. to honor Kurt Colburn, longtime Soar on the Shore DJ, who passed last year. The Wisconsin Kiters Club will perform a ghost kite flight in his honor. Kurt was an important part of Soar and his positive spirit set the tone for each festival.

    Soar on the Shore is sponsored by NextEra Energy, Jason and Nichole Schneeberger, Fox Communities Credit Union, CTI Hospitality, Jandu Petroleum, Hooray for Hollywood, Algoma Community Development Committee, John and Cathy Pabich, The Haven, Algoma Family Dental, Yardstick Books, Yonder, Nicolet Bank, Karen Hayward, Blue Yorkie Juicery and Target Sturgeon Bay.

    The mission of Friends of Crescent Beach is: “To promote through advocacy, education and activities the improvement, support, protection and enjoyment of Crescent Beach.” All donations go to supporting this mission.

    All activities, especially the ability to fly kites, are weather dependent. Rain date is scheduled for Sunday August 22, 11-4pm.
