Yardstick is thrilled to host the Grand Avenue Poetry Collective reading from their collection, “The Water Poems”, for the Art of Water celebration here in Algoma on Saturday, May 4 at 1 pm. The event is free and open to the public. We hope to see you here! The book will be available for purchase.
The Grand Avenue Poetry Collective is a group of poets based in Sheboygan, Wisconsin who have been friends for many years, reading each others’ poetry and working together to improve and support each other’s work.
In 2017, group member Dawn Hogue launched a publishing imprint called Water’s Edge Press and approached the group with the idea of a collaborative effort: poems about water. Each writer agreed to contribute twelve poems to the book, including many new, previously unpublished poems, and before long the book moved from a casual idea tossed around at dinner to a tangible volume of poetry that now seems to resonate with many readers.
In addition to The Water Poems, most members of the Grand Avenue Poetry Collective have published chapbooks or full-length poetry collections of their own. The poets also collaborated on a second project, a chapbook called The Aging Poems. The group has a page on Facebook for those who wish to keep up with them.
