  • Author Lisa Vihos Reading and Signing, The Long Snake: Story of Sofonisba Anguissola

ALGOMA, WI – On Saturday, September 17, 2022, 1:00pm to 2:00pm, author Lisa Vihos will read from her novel, THE LONE SNAKE and answer reader questions. The event will conclude with a book signing.

In THE LONE SNAKE: THE STORY OF SOFONIBA ANGUISSOLA, Lisa Vihos brings Renaissance artist Sofonisba Anguissola to life as a woman yearning for recognition in a world not ready for her.  Readers will journey with Anguissola through her early years in Cremona, to Rome where she studies with Michelangelo to her time at Spanish court, and eventually out to sea where she meets the love of her life under a starry sky. Vihos’s portrait of life in the 16th century is a rich tapestry that blends art history, romance, and verse to tell a timeless tale of what it means to create.

“This narrative loops, lifts, and cinches into a warm knowing we all carry, about legacy, loss, and love. Vihos deftly carries our emotions across time, cultures, and the resolve of devotion.” –Dasha Kelly Hamilton, author of Almost Crimson and poet laureate of Wisconsin, 2021-2023

The poems of Lisa Vihos have appeared in numerous poetry journals, both print and online, and she has published four chapbooks. She has two Pushcart Prize nominations and several awards from the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets and the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters. She is a founding editor of Stoneboat Literary Journal and the Sheboygan organizer for 100 Thousand Poets for Change. In 2020, she was named the first poet laureate of Sheboygan where she hosts the podcast Poetry on Air for Mead Public Library. THE LONE SNAKE: THE STORY OF SOFONIBA ANGUISSOLA is her first novel.
