Algoma’s Soar on the Shore Beach & Kite Festival Celebrates 8 Years
ALGOMA, WI – The public is invited to Algoma’s Crescent Beach on the shore of Lake Michigan for a free family friendly event. The 8th Annual Soar on the Shore Kite and Beach Festival will take place Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 11am-4pm. This event is presented by Friends of Crescent Beach and the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce. The event takes place on Crescent Beach and Lake Street overlooking the waters of Lake Michigan.
The Wisconsin Kiters Club will provide stunt kites, giant display kites and a kite candy drop/candy blasting for kids. With favorable winds, this club can “paint the sky’ with color and movement. They will also be on hand to answer questions about kiting and give newcomers some valuable tips. There will be a public fly area for people to fly their own kites.
Children are invited to participate in crafts, street games, scavenger hunt and playing in the sand with toys. There will be easels available for aspiring plein air artists. Mischief & Magic, sponsored by Fox Communities Credit Union, will provide twisted balloon creations and face painting. Design and create a kite sun catcher with CTI Hospitality, a national millwork and casework company from Algoma. Bay Shore Outfitters will provide kayak demos down on the beach.
Two new activities this year include dyed bandanas and a beach inspired scavenger hunt. Dye your own bandana with Art Beet Kewaunee using dye made from beets grown in the Algoma Community Garden. Draw your design in wax and then submerge in dye to create a beautiful bandana. All materials provided, while supplies last.
Visit the Friends of Crescent Beach tent to pick up your beach inspired scavenger hunt. Questions will range from counting to drawing and searching out unique features of Crescent Beach. Questions will be geared to children 6-14 years of age. Turn in your completed form for a small prize and a chance to win a kite.
Smokin’ Tom’s Team Barbeque will be serving pulled pork sandwiches smoked 12-16 hours, homemade creamy mac and cheese and oreo balls. Homemade sauces include Kansas City style sweet, sweet and spicy and Carolina style mustard vinegar.
The Ernest Haucke American Legion Post 236 will be selling hotdogs, chili dogs, and chips. Algoma’s Destination Imagination will sell their famous boiled sweet corn. Grab a cool treat from Sweet Escapes Ice Cream Truck.
Soar on the Shore is sponsored by Jason and Nichole Schneeberger, Fox Communities Credit Union, A&W Algoma, Algoma Community Development Committee, CTI Hospitality, Jandu Petroleum, Hooray for Hollywood, Forestville Builders, The Haven, Bay Shore Outfitters, Blue Yorkie Juicery, Ebert Enterprises, Gail Force Sportfishing, Karen Hayward, Sue Hepp and Family, Lakeshore Vision, Nicolet Bank, The Pabich Family, Target Sturgeon Bay, and Weber Insurance Services.
