A is for Algoma and Anniversaries!
One of our favorite things to do at the Algoma Visitors Center is find out where people are from and what brought them to Algoma, WI. A common answer is for an anniversary!
If you are looking for a romantic and quiet anniversary trip away from the hustle of the city, Algoma, WI is the perfect destination.
Historic Downtown Algoma
Pull up a free parking spot, grab your partner’s hand, and enjoy the Algoma shopping experience at your own pace.
Algoma’s unique, owner-operated stores will make your anniversary experience so much more personal. While shopping in town, most of the time you will likely meet the shop owners. This will add a depth to your anniversary visit that you would not get in a big city. On Sunday mornings during the summer, visit Legion Park for the Algoma Sunday Farmers Market for more local fare.

Art
Another draw for anniversary couples is Algoma’s art scene. There is indoor and outdoor art to enjoy with almost all the art galleries within walking distance of each other. If you are in town on the first Friday of the month, you can enjoy First Friday in Algoma, an evening of exhibition opening receptions and get yourselves an anniversary gift of art that will remind you of your time here in Algoma.
Outdoor art can be seen by doing Algoma’s Historic Walking tour that includes murals: new, old, and newly refreshed. Take some selfies by these beautiful works of Algoma art as a special remembrance of your anniversary trip while learning a little about the history of our small city.
Speaking of More History….
von Stiehl Winery is Wisconsin’s oldest licensed winery. Take a tour of the facility and then enjoy some of Northeast Wisconsin’s best wines and ciders, either inside the tasting room or out on the terrace. During the summer months, bring your anniversary celebration to von Stiehl’s summer concert series on Friday and Saturday afternoons, relaxing outdoors overlooking the Ahnapee River.
Also embedded in Algoma’s history is Ahnapee Brewery, now just a couple of blocks south of the winery. In June 2022 the new, bigger tap room opened and offers the happy couple a view of Lake Michigan while enjoying some of the best craft beers in the area.

Speaking of Outdoors
One of the most sought-after activities in Algoma is simply spending a leisurely afternoon on Crescent Beach including a stroll on the boardwalk or on the sand. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets or sit on a bench or picnic table. Dip your toes in the cool waters of Lake Michigan, or even take a swim (if you dare). The sounds of lapping waves are enough to relax just about everyone. The romance is built in.
If a little more outdoor adventure is your style, you can go on a fishing charter with one of our world-class Charter services or head to The River by Bay Shore and take out a kayak or stand-up board for a paddle on the Ahnapee River. Bay Shore Outfitters also rents electric bikes so you can experience the Ahnapee State Trail.
There are also two golf courses within a short driving distance that will cure any couple’s need to get out on the links: Northbrook Golf & Grill and Alaskan Golf Club.
