2019 Volunteer Tour: Big Lake Campground
On Wednesday, May 15, 2019, a group of Algoma Visitor Center (VC) volunteers and some guests boarded a bus and took a tour of some of our Chamber member businesses and attractions. This is the second year for the tour, which helps the VC volunteers become more familiar with everything our members and the area have to offer as we get ready for the summer tourism season here on the lakeshore.
Our second stop of the day was the Big Lake Campground. Mike Thomas, who co-owns and operates the campground with his wife Linda and their family, boarded the bus to tell the volunteers a little about the campground.
The campground is located at 2427 Lake Street (Hwy 42), approximately 1 mile south of the Algoma city limits and offers the following:
- 85 sites, 22 with water and electricity, 41 with water, electricity, sewer and plenty of room for slide-outs
- tent sites
- picnic tables & fire rings on each site
- squeaky clean heated restrooms & showers with hot water
- laundry facilities
- fishing report & fish freezing
- ice & firewood
- dumping station
- playground/recreation area
- storage for boats and RV
- free WiFi
Sites are available by the day, week, month, and seasonally. Reservations are encouraged but not always necessary and can be made by calling (920) 487-2726.
