2019 Shanty Days 5K To Have New Race Directors

 In Shanty Days

The 2019 Shanty Days 5K will kick off with a “Passing of the torch” to new race directors!  Don Poore and Jean Belleau of Algoma will be taking over for Dr. Rob and Jody Anderson.  The Anderson’s have co-directed the race for the past 9 years and took over for Jerry Matuszak in 2009.

Since 2009, 5K registrations have doubled and the SD5K has been an event in the Titletown Wellness Series and Run the Door Series.

“The motivation for us to take over as directors was to grow registration and keep it a family-friendly event that would draw in participants from near and far.” states Jody Anderson.  Don and Jean have been volunteering at the event for several years, and have become comfortable with race operations.  “They bring years of racing experience and a new energy to the event.” says Rob Anderson.

The Anderson’s will still be assisting as race volunteers and are helping with the transition.  They are excited to get back on the course and run in the 5K again. “We would like to thank all of volunteers who have helped with the event over the years, without your support and hard work, this event would not be possible.” states Jody Anderson.

“As volunteer race directors, Don and I are looking forward to continuing the momentum Dr. Rob and Jody have created and keep the SD5K a family fun event.” Jean adds.

“We have participated in many events including 5K, Half and Full Marathons along with with Triathlons and Ultra Events. (Don has even done Full IronMan’s and a 50 mile Ultra Run). We hope to incorporate some of the fun and exciting experiences we have enjoyed at other venues into the SD5K.”

“Our goal is to Inspire all ages and abilities to participate in the SD5K and we are looking forward to seeing you on the course!”

The 5K route highlights the beautiful lake shore, with a gradual downhill cruise to the finish line.   The event also includes the Kids Superhero Fun, a half-mile run around the Shanty Days grounds.  Kids 9 and under can test their super powers by racing the course with Superheros.  You’ll see old friends and certainly make new ones at the Shanty Days 5K.

This year’s event will be held on August 10, 2019.  You can register online for the 5K or Kids Superhero Fun Run at  https://runsignup.com/Race/WI/Algoma/AlgomaShantyDays5K?remMeAttempt=
